5 out of 5 stars A "Doable" Option for Night Splints   March 22, 2008

As the name implies, these are splints you wear at night. Most of them look like big boots, which is why I like the Futuro Plantar Fasciitis Sleep Support brand- it's just less bulky to wear at night than most.

Now the idea behind these splints is to try and keep the foot and ankle structures stretched out all night in order to promote healing and avoid morning pain and stiffness that is so common in plantar fasciitis. Only a few randomized controlled trials have actually tested out this interesting idea. For instance:

-volunteers in one study were randomized to get either custom foot inserts, anterior night splints, or custom foot inserts and anterior night splints (Roos 2006). At 12 weeks, all groups improved significantly with no significant differences found in pain among the three groups at any point in time.

-in another study, patients wore either custom shoe inserts, over-the-counter arch supports, or night splints (Martin 2001). At 12 week follow-up, all groups improved with no significant differences between them.

-night splints were compared to no night splint use in this randomized controlled trial (Powell 1998). After one month, the group that wore the night splints showed greater improvement compared to the control group.

As you can see, these night splints ARE effective in treating plantar fasciitis-but note that they seem to be just as effective as over-the-counter or custom foot inserts too. Therefore, since night splints can be a pain to sleep with for a lot of people, I recommend you try them as a last resort after you've tried more conservative things such as foot inserts. 5 out of 5 stars 1 Night Review   September 16, 2008

I've tried inserts ($5 cheap ones up to almost custom $60 ones) and they help during the day, but every morning I wake up and can barely walk.

After 1 night, I knew something would be different. One foot (with the splint) was lose in the morning vs the other foot (without) being tight with pain as I stepped out of bed.

These work but a little advice.

Don't put them on too tight the first night. Goal is to not allow foot to stay close to standing angle vs high heal (not that I wear high heals).

I started with them on tight and found that the calf tightness was keeping me awake. I may adjust it tighter as time goes by.

I'm a stomach sleeper which doesn't allow the ankle flex at night (does the opposite) and is one of the key causes of my planters. If you are a stomach sleeper and have planters, try one of these out!

After 2 weeks using it I'm 75 % better and much less pain in the morning.
It has done to me more than any pill or any other thing. Don't forget to combine with streching at least Tree times a day.

I have been suffering with Plantars Fasciitis for over a year now and thought I would have to go back to the doctor until I found this soft sleep support online and tried it. I have been using this every night for a month now and have no pain at all!!

I've never worn a night splint before now, however I found this suprisingly comfortable! The thought of wearing a big, bulky night splint in not appealing and I am very satisfied that I purchased this.
